How to manage patient communication in Messages
The Messages page is the main communication center for patient conversations. It supports direct messaging, quick replies, patient context access, and note creation from within the conversation workflow.
When to use this
Use Messages when you need to:
- respond to a patient question
- follow up after onboarding or treatment setup
- coordinate scheduling or next steps
- review recent conversation history
- document something while communicating with a patient
What you can do in this workflow
- open a patient conversation
- read new and prior messages
- send a reply
- use a quick response
- open patient details
- create a new note
- mark a conversation as unread
How it works
The page has three functional areas:
- Left column: conversation list
- Main panel: active message thread
- Bottom composer: message field and quick actions
Some items in the thread may be system-generated updates rather than direct patient messages.
Step by step
- Open Messages from the left navigation.
- Use the search field to find a patient.
- Select the conversation from the list.
- Read the latest thread activity in the main panel.
- Review any system messages for important context.
- Type your reply in the message field.
- Use a quick reply if one matches the situation.
- Select the send button.
- Use Details if you need patient context while staying in the conversation.
- Use New note if you need to document something connected to the interaction.
Tips
- Read the most recent system messages before replying, especially if the thread includes assignment or scheduling updates.
- Use quick replies for standard communication, but personalize when needed.
- Mark a thread as unread if you are waiting to complete a follow-up action later.
- Keep communication clear and action-oriented when discussing next steps with patients.
